Development

The Department of Bioenvironmental Systems Engineering originated from the Agricultural Engineering of Taihoku Imperial University and was one of the oldest departments of the university. It was founded to support agricultural production, therefore the research and teaching was mainly focused on irrigation and drainage engineering. With the socio-economic development Ecological Environment Sustainable Development is now one of the important international issue ,therefore soil & water resources engineering and management were added to our research categories combined with bioenvironmental engineering, biologicalenvironmental and facilities system engineering, groundwater development and contamination prevention, Environmental Systems Analysis and Sustainable Development, architectural design and environmental planning, bioenvironmental information. We provide courses include: Hydrology, Environmental Chemistry, Soil Mechanics, ecohydraulics, environmental remote sensing, information management, biology, ecological engineering, soil and water conservation, etc, to nurture engineers to lead the bioenvironmental engineering, soil and water resources engineering, environmental informatics and systems engineering community. We also develop and apply engineering technology and management science methods to ensure the sustainability of the ecological environment and support the sustainable development of socio-economic, which is the development goal of our department.
