The 1st International Symposium on Nature-Based Solutions for Carbon and Nutrient Cycles
Date: Monday, February 20, 2023
Venue: 4F, Hydrotech Research Institute, National Taiwan University, Taipei
1. Background: To support the “2050 Net-Zero Transition” and “5+2 Industrial Innovation Plans” in Taiwan, this Symposium aims to establish the implementation strategies for applying Nature-based Solutions (NbS) and green circular technologies towards responsible consumption and production in the scope of the “New Agriculture” and “Circular Economy”. The Symposium will discuss several environmentally-friendly practices, such as (1) replacing chemical fertilizers with the digestate from anaerobic digestion (AD) of agricultural wastes, (2) synthesis and application of waste-derived biochars, and (3) implementing green eco-technologies for non-point source pollution control, to reduce the impacts of climate-related disasters, such as drought and/or flood, on water resource management in agricultural landscape. The purposes of this Symposium are (1) to exchange innovative research frameworks, methodologies and technologies of NbS for sustainable carbon and nutrient cycles, (2) to identify the future collaborative directions on NbS for net-zero transition, and (3) to foster the exchange and dissemination of state-of-the-art NbS research among researchers, educators, and practitioners.
2. Symposium Themes:
